ToDos
The overview ToDo list, completed ToDos, the details modal and the ToDo editor.
Overview list
- The overview ToDo list is ordered by deadline and priority.
- It has one Add action and no expanded ToDo block.
- ToDo browsing and details belong in the overview. There is no ToDos side drawer.
ToDo row
See TodoRow.
- Layout: checkbox target | wrapping text with an inline deadline and priority line | pen edit target.
- Rows have no card or divider, with 4 dp between them.
- The 22 dp checkbox overhangs into the list padding, so its box sits on the content edge.
- Urgent deadlines and “! High” are red Bold.
- Tapping the checkbox only toggles completion.
- The top-aligned pen icon opens the editor directly.
- Completed rows are muted and struck through.
Completed ToDos
- Completed ToDos sit below open ToDos in a “Completed (count)” section, collapsed by default.
- The newest completion is first.
- Expanding the section is static, with no animation.
- Tapping a completed ToDo's checked box reopens it.
- Completed rows keep their details and edit actions.
Retention
| Setting | Value |
|---|---|
| Keep completed ToDos | 1–30 days, shared |
| Default | 3 days |
| Step | 1 day |
- Settings → ToDos → Keep completed ToDos sets the period with − and + controls and Cancel/Save.
- The setting explains that expired ToDos are deleted permanently, and that shortening the period also applies to already completed ToDos.
- Server maintenance deletes expired ToDos through sync tombstones. Offline devices catch up when they sync.
- Editing a completed ToDo does not restart its retention.
- Reopening clears the completion time. Completing it again starts a new period.
Reminders
One daily notification, the digest, lists the ToDos that need attention. It is scheduled on each device; there is no server push.
| ToDo | In the digest |
|---|---|
| High priority | From 2 days before its due date |
| Medium priority | From 1 day before its due date |
| Low priority | On its due date |
| Overdue | Every day until completed, as “Overdue” |
| Undated, completed, gone | Never |
- The digest appears at the reminder time (default 09:00) in the device's time zone. A day with nothing to list shows no notification.
- One digest per day. A device that was off or asleep at the reminder time shows one digest when it next runs that day, never one per missed day.
- Editing a ToDo after the day's digest does not notify again; the change shows in the next digest.
- A reminder time skipped by daylight saving moves to the first valid time after the gap. A repeated time notifies once.
- Turning reminders on or changing the time makes today's digest due again, even if one was already shown or was empty: at the new time while it is still ahead today, or right away when it has passed.
- The title counts the ToDos: “1 ToDo due”, “4 ToDos due”. Each line is “due: text”, using the rows' wording (“Overdue: Pay rent”, “Today 14:00: Call Anna”, “Tomorrow: Dentist”). Overdue lines come first, then by deadline. Six lines show, then “+N more”.
- The lock screen shows only the title.
- The notification channel is “ToDo reminders”. Its icon is the ToDos checklist glyph.
- Tapping the digest opens the ToDo list: the Todos tab on the phone, the overview with its ToDo sidebar on BOOX. An open ToDo editor stays open.
- Reminders show only the signed-in account's ToDos. Signing out turns them off and removes a shown digest.
- There is no per-ToDo snooze or mute.
Details modal
- Tapping a ToDo row opens a bounded, scrollable details modal.
- It shows the full text, saved handwriting, status, deadline, priority and source.
- The task text is the most prominent element.
- Status, Due date and Priority are label/value rows in consistent columns.
- Creation and edit times are not shown.
- A linked meeting or journal note is one full-width outlined destination with a wrapping title. See ListCard.
- When the linked notes are gone, the source title stays with an unavailable state.
- Source navigation happens from the details modal.
- The modal has × and a single Edit action.
- Edit closes the details, then opens the editor.
Editor
See HandwritingField.
- Handwriting tools, text and metadata are separate areas.
- The tools (Pen, Eraser | Undo, Clear ink, Convert to text) sit inside the pad frame, above the writing surface.
- The Text field has its label above it.
- Due date and due time sit side by side, above the Today / Tomorrow / Next week / No date chips.
- Priority is a Low / Medium / High segmented control.
- Metadata sections are 24 dp apart.
- Both devices use the same layout.
- Creating a ToDo from a journal or meeting-note selection opens the editor directly.
- Save and Cancel then return to that same note, without opening a list.
Editing an existing ToDo
- An existing ToDo reopens with its saved text and ink.
- On the phone, the ink pad starts expanded when saved strokes exist.
- Editing never re-recognizes ink or replaces corrected text on its own.
- Clearing all handwriting keeps the text.
- Save accepts non-empty text without trying to recognize an empty pad.
- Cancel keeps the saved content.
Limits and behaviour
- ToDo overviews keep metadata and handwriting counts only.
- Saved ink samples load only for an opened editor or a details preview.
- The details modal holds its loaded and fitted preview samples within the shared memory estimate, and releases them when it closes.
- While ink loads, the handwriting area shows a static loading label.
- A failed read offers Retry and never shows empty ink. Close and Cancel stay available.
- Editing and Save stay disabled until the ToDo's exact saved revision has loaded.
- Toggling completion keeps the stored handwriting without loading it.
