Notes and editors
Pages, zoom, the date pill, deleting, Topics, Meeting notes and meeting details in journal, meeting and topic editors.
Pages and zoom
- Every page is A4 portrait (595 × 842 pt) on every device. There is no infinite canvas.
- Ink, pen widths and paper patterns share page points.
- 100% zoom is real paper size, from the device's physical density.
- The first time a device shows a page, the tablet opens it at fit-width with the top edge at the top of the view. The phone opens it at fit-height (within the zoom range), with the top and bottom edges flush with the view and the wider sheet centred, so equal amounts are cut off left and right and can be panned to. Later views keep the saved position.
- The Zoom tool is − / level / +, inline in the bar or in the » tray.
- Zoom runs from 30% to 300%, by pinch or by step.
- The steps are 30, 50, 75, 100, 150, 200 and 300%. Tapping the level (tabular figures) fits the page width.
- Lock zoom is a separate toggle icon. It blocks pinch scaling, not explicit steps.
- There are no zoom-preset toolbar items.
- On an axis where the zoomed sheet is smaller than the view, the sheet is centred on that axis and does not pan; on an axis where it is larger, panning stops at the sheet edges.
- The area outside the sheet is gray
#e8e8e8and never accepts ink.

Date pill
Confirmed journals and recurring meetings show a date pill. See Pill.
| Property | Value |
|---|---|
| Position | Top right of the writable viewport, below meeting details when present |
| Inset | 16 dp from the top-right corner, measured to the outline |
| Outline | 28 dp tall, thin outline, white surface |
| Date text | 14 sp Medium |
| Chevrons | 24 dp glyphs in 48 dp targets that extend beyond the outline |
- On the tablet, tapping the date opens a date picker popover anchored under the pill, right-aligned, with Today in the heading and no footer.
- On the phone, tapping the date opens the date picker sheet. See DatePicker.
- In a journal, the arrows change the day.
- In a meeting, Back is disabled when the previous occurrence has no saved note.
- The pill supports all seven confirmed date formats, including numeric leading zeros. Settings → Notes → Date format has Cancel/Save.
- The pill keeps the same right anchor in every format.
- Date navigation and page navigation stay separate controls.
- In a topic, the pill shows the topic name without arrows and opens Rename topic.
Meeting series
- Changing a series date keeps the original return route and save admission.
- One-off meeting dates have no series arrows and no series picker.
- When series navigation is unavailable, existing notes stay and the user gets explicit retry feedback.
Journal date navigation
- Journal date navigation (previous date, date and calendar picker, next date) is one optional editing tool.
- Fresh installations and Reset to default put it in the » tray, off the toolbar.
- It is hidden in meeting notes and topics.
- Moving between pages within a note is separate from date navigation.
Deleting pages and notes
- Deleting one of several pages is permanent and has no Undo.
- It asks “Delete page?” / “This can not be undone.” with a “Don't show this warning again” checkbox, remembered per device.
- Settings → Notes → “Confirm before deleting pages” turns the warning back on.
- Deleting the last page deletes the whole journal or meeting notebook and its cached history.
- The last-page confirmation is titled “Delete note?” and says “Are you sure you want to delete this note? This can not be undone.”
- Saved last-page notes always confirm, even when blank.
- Delete page on an untouched, never-saved last-page draft closes it immediately and returns to the overview.
- After a note is deleted, the app returns to the overview (BOOX calendar, phone Todos and agenda). It never waits for remote sync.
- Linked ToDos keep their text and source label.
Topics
Topics are saved on creation, so the never-saved draft rule above does not apply to them.
- Deleting a topic's only page leaves a blank page on the default paper.
- Delete page is disabled on that blank page.
- A topic is removed only through Delete topic.
- Back (app bar or system) returns to the Topics overview.
- There is no previous or next topic.
Topics modal
The only topic-specific view. It uses the shared InkPopover, laid out like the Meeting notes library.
- From top to bottom: a fixed heading with the count and ×, New topic, search with Clear (once topics exist), then a bounded list with a persistent scrollbar.
- The list shows the most recently edited topic first.
- Each topic is a full-width outlined card with its wrapping name, localized last-edited time and page count. See ListCard.
- Tapping a card opens the topic.
- A separate 48 dp More actions target on the card offers Rename and Delete.
- The empty state explains that topics hold notes about a subject rather than a date, and offers New topic.
- The current note stays open underneath. Only opening or creating a topic switches notebooks.
- Topics is a global action on both devices. On the phone it folds into ⋮ like the other global actions.
Topic name dialog
- New topic and Rename share one name dialog (
InkDialog) with anInkTextFieldand a character count. - Inline errors cover a blank name, more than 80 characters, and a duplicate name (case-insensitive).
- The dialog stays open on a save error.
Delete topic
- Delete topic is in the card menu.
- Its confirmation names the topic.
- When pages hold writing, it says how many will be permanently lost.
Meeting notes library
A searchable library of meeting notebooks.
- From top to bottom: a fixed heading with the count and ×, search with Clear, then a bounded list with a persistent scrollbar.
- Each notebook is a full-width outlined card with a wrapping title, the complete localized date and time, and a trailing chevron.
- A card shows a calendar-status message only when it is meaningful.
- All notebooks are listed, with no calendar-connection group label. A missing event association does not mean the calendar is disconnected.
- Tapping anywhere on a card opens the notebook.
- The library has no delete action, menu or confirmation.
- Empty and no-result states explain the next step.
- BOOX uses the wider modal. The phone keeps the bounded, bottom-aligned surface.
Meeting details
Tablet
- Meeting details are a pill at the top right of the writing area, above the date pill.
- The pill is full radius, with a 1 dp outline on the meeting fill: rail, title, time (tabular figures) and a chevron.
- While open, the pill uses the selected style.
- The pill opens a 500 dp popover: title, Refresh and ×, the time, a scrolling description, then Event details, Reconnect notes and Delete meeting notes.
- The writing area keeps its size.
Phone
- Meeting details scroll within the expanded header row.
- Event details, Refresh, Reconnect and Delete stay fixed below the details, so a long description never hides them.
Both devices
- Event details is offered as soon as the event is in the calendar, even before the note is saved.
- The note actions appear once the note is saved.
- Reconnect shows a date picker, a calendar filter and scrollable event cards with title, time and calendar.
- Selecting an event card asks for confirmation.
- When the target already has notes, the existing merge review runs.
Limits and behaviour
Two-finger page navigation
- While the gesture moves, the existing native drawing is shown as a preview, clipped to the writing area.
- Page coordinates are rebuilt once, on release or cancellation.
- Native coordinates are restored before new ink is accepted.
- Stored samples never change.
- Content exposed beyond the preview is redrawn when the gesture settles.
Date pill exclusion
- The pill's 48 dp action targets are separate from its 28 dp outline and belong to the native paper exclusion bounds.
- Date and time pickers exclude the writing surface for as long as they are open.
